Matriarchal Programming

One of the allures of Science Fiction and Fantasy is that it's predicated on the "what if." Relishing in potentials and twisting them around to see what could happen while allowing us to explore something that we might otherwise discard in a fantastical setting.

This last week I discovered that back in the 60s, programming was considered a "women's job."

Interesting.

What if programming stayed as a "women's job." A field dominated by women.

How would software be? Would it be different? Would our social structure, or our computer usage be different?

Would it have been a gateway to turn our society into a matriarchal one instead of a patriarchal one?
